Textbooks FAQ

Select the campus that you attend from the list of "Campuses" in the left navigation bar on the homepage, select the appropriate quarter, and fill in any one of the search fields. All titles that are available online are also available in the store, so if a book is listed as "currently unavailable," then it is not yet in stock. Please note that not all instructors require a textbook for their classes. If you cannot find a book using a course or section number, the instructor may not have submitted an order to the University Book Store. Please be sure to check the availability of your course materials early.

Yes. When checking out, simply select "Charge & Hold" for your shipping preference. This service is provided free of charge. You will receive an email when your textbooks are ready for pickup. Textbook pickup is at the textbooks Internet Order Pick up counter (located on the bottom floor at the U District Store.) Valid ID is required.

Unfortunately, University Book Store does not have access to your financial aid records.

Certainly. Just bring any books you want to return back to us in the same condition they were purchased, with your original receipt, before the refund deadline for the current quarter. New books must be in new condition—no water damage, highlighting, dog-eared pages, etc. Pre-packaged course materials that contain additional components must be un-opened. Yes. Textbook BuyBack is available year-round, at all University Book Store locations, during regular store hours. Textbook Buyback applies to UW, Cascadia, ShorelineCC, City University of Seattle, Digipen, Cornish, the high schools we serve, and all other U.S. colleges. During quarter finals, textbooks that will be used in the upcoming quarter will be bought back for up to 50% of the new book price, unless one of the following events occurs:

  • The instructor has not requested the book for the next semester. (Textbooks that will not be used in the upcoming semester will be bought back at market value.)
  • We have already bought back as many copies of the book as we need.
  • There is a more recent edition available.
  • The book has no national market demand.
  • The book is not in resalable condition.

You do not need your receipt to sell back your books.

  • Save your sales receipt. It is required for returns.
  • Preference for USED or NEW textbooks will be followed depending on availability.
  • Course Packs, Access Codes, CDs and Software, Lab Manuals, and Workbooks are available only as NEW.
  • If you cannot find a course or section, the instructor may not have submitted an order to the University Book Store.

Textbook Rental FAQ

To rent a textbook you'll need a VISA, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express credit or debit card. (No prepaid cards.) The card you use for your rental must be valid through the end of the quarter during which you're renting. You'll also need to provide your student number and a valid email address.

Rentals are due back on the Friday of Finals Week.

Rental returns are easy! Just bring your book to the BuyBack & Returns desk at University Book Store by your rental due date, and we'll process your return.

Sure! You can highlight and write in your book–just don't turn it into a work of art or take it swimming with you.

Absolutely. Just bring the book back to us in the same condition it was rented, with your original receipt, before the rental refund deadline for the current quarter.

That's fine! You will just pay the difference between your rental cost and the purchase price of a new copy of the book. This is easily done through your online account.

No. The Pack Rewards does not offer any discounts on textbook rentals.
